Exploring Tessitura's technology roadmap

3/19/2025

You might imagine I spend most of my time guiding our product strategy, supervising our product team and managing resources for our many technology initiatives.

And as Tessitura's Vice President of Product, overseeing those projects and timelines is a critical part of my job.

But it might surprise you to know that I consider listening to be an equally important aspect of my work. My job is to listen to and carefully consider the feedback we get from you and other Tessitura members. We use your requests, ideas and suggestions to help shape and inform our innovation priorities. Then, we aim to make that work transparent so that you know we’re not only listening but also acting on what we hear.

One of the ways we realize that transparency is by showcasing our product roadmap. Our roadmap defines how we’ll achieve our technology vision. That includes how our technology investments enable our product vision.

To make that vision a reality, we think every day about our three pillars:

  • What we can do for your team
  • What we can do for your customers
  • And how we will improve our platform to benefit you both

For Tessitura users, that means working in an intuitive, sophisticated application that drives effective audience engagement. For your audiences and visitors, it means digital empowerment with convenience and flexibility.

We try to express all that in our roadmap, but roadmaps are living documents. Requirements can change. New information becomes available. So, we regularly revisit and adjust priorities. But we want you to have a front-row seat to how we make those decisions. Most importantly, we want you to understand why we believe those choices provide the most benefit to you and your customers.

In his February webinar, President and CEO Andrew Recinos provided an overview of Tessitura’s 2025 company priorities, including several product-related updates. In April, we’ll offer more details in the first of our new series of quarterly technology webinars. We’ll explore highlights from recent and upcoming releases. And we’ll share insights about our product vision and the initiatives driving innovation at Tessitura.

We hope you’ll join us. Until then, here’s a preview of several highlights.

Strengthening v16

Last year, we told you we were adding resources to accelerate our efforts to strengthen v16. The main objective is to release valuable fixes and enhancements faster.

Since then, we’ve made considerable progress toward that goal.

  • We’re now consistently resolving more issues than reported to us.
  • We’re focusing on fixes you’ve said bring the most value to you. Last month, we addressed issues relating to how rollover orders interact with memberships, promo codes or source numbers, and contributions. The Subscription Rollover Report now has more reliable error reporting.
  • Plus, we’re delivering key enhancements you told us you wanted. For example, to provide more detail on the constituent dashboard, we added back in street 2 and 3 designations. We changed the edit icon to be consistent across the application. And we improved sorting and filtering, allowing you to sort by the order date column.

I am also excited to share that the Education Registration Extension is now in general release. This extension allows you to seamlessly collect essential data throughout the online purchase journey, ensuring you have all the information you need to sell education programs. Thank you to our members who tested the extension as part of the limited pilot and previews.

As a result of all this work, we’ve seen a significant increase in members’ adoption of v16. Today, nearly 350, or 44%, of our members are live on this latest version. Another 85 organizations are already in the pipeline to upgrade this year. They include members of all sizes and genres in all the regions we serve.

If you have not yet chosen your desired timeline, I encourage you to reach out by opening a support ticket. We’ll assign you an upgrade concierge and get you in the queue for a time that works best for your team.

Delivering valuable features

Transforming your Tessitura experience remains a top priority. As part of our evolution to a fully browser-based application, we’re committed to achieving QuickSale parity and launching all other nontransactional Tessitura functionality in a browser before the end of 2025. Today, we already have departments who can do their entire jobs from inside the web application!

At the same time, we’re focused on delivering customer-facing digital innovations to provide flexible and frictionless self-service features. We also plan to offer payment alternatives to give your customers more options so you can hit your revenue goals.

We expect to deliver the following features in 2025.

SYOS for flex packages

Our primary customer-facing technology is Tessitura’s e-commerce solution, TNEW. Earlier this year, we began development on select your own seat for flex packages, our most requested TNEW feature.

SYOS for flex packages gives your loyal patrons the power of choice. We're bringing the seat map experience to the flex package purchase path. Customers will be able to choose their preferred seat or seats for every event in their package. SYOS for flex packages will include configurable settings, such as mixing best available seating with SYOS across the package depending on the products you're bundling.

Thanks to focus group discussions and product discovery sessions with you, we’ve tweaked the scope slightly to provide a smoother experience for your patrons.

Additional payment methods

We’ll also improve recurring payment options this year. We’re working to support direct debit for pledge billing, with BACS and ACH payment options in Tessitura Merchant Services.

Digital membership cards

Finally, just as we have digital wallet ticketing, in 2025 we will roll out digital wallet membership cards natively through Tessitura and TNEW. Cards will be easily downloadable to mobile wallets via a simple link. Designed to meet the needs of most member organizations, the cards leverage existing technology for effortless adoption and support. Plus, the functionality is designed to be future-proof, reducing your need for custom solutions.

Looking ahead

In April’s technology webinar, we’ll look farther ahead at several roadmap items on deck for next year. We’ll also answer your questions about these and other product priorities.

In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly. And keep your feedback and suggestions flowing — on the forums, through the Ideas board and at community group meetings. We’re always excited to hear from you!
