“I really appreciate the connection to other arts and culture organizations through the Tessitura community.”

Ahead of the upcoming meetup of the Houston Tessitura Community, we caught up with co-chair Dr. Katherine Sadler who is Director of Operations at Houston Botanic Garden.  She shares the volunteer role of chair with Brittany Restrepo at Houston Ballet and Neda Asgharzadeh at The Museum of Fine Arts.

Dr. Sadler  told us about the variety of her role and how Tessitura has improved customer journeys, operations and data collection at Houston Botanic Garden.

1. How does Tessitura support the work you do?

I get to drive the use of Tessitura to assist job functions throughout the organization. I have especially enjoyed improving our purchase journey through the use of features such as add-ons and promo codes. I championed the use of Wordfly Pages to create enhanced surveys and RSVP forms, which has made data collection really exciting and seamless with the Tessitura integration. I am also a huge fan of reports and analytics, and I rely on Tessitura all the time to support ROI conversations for my organization.

2. Why is the Tessitura community important to you?

I come from a performing arts background originally. While I work at a living museum now, I really appreciate the connection to other arts and culture organizations through the Tessitura community. I find Tessitura to be empowering software for those of us in non-profit arts and culture work. Tessitura is designed specifically to meet our needs, and it enables us to join the tech and data landscape in an accessible way. The community is a big part of that through sharing of resources and ideas.

3. What does a typical day include for you?

As the Director of Operations at a Botanic Garden, there is almost no such thing as a typical day! I oversee our facilities and maintenance projects, so often I’m just making sure the bathrooms are working. I also get to work on long term projects. Currently I am preparing my organization for our cutover to Tessitura v16 as well as a shift to Tessitura Merchant Services and SalesVu.

4. You are chairing a meetup of the Houston Tessitura Community this week at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. What are you looking forward to?

We plan to share some of the great takeaways from that event with the larger Houston community. Also, what an awesome invitation from our colleagues at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston! I hope we all get a chance to see some of their amazing works at some point in the evening.
