“The Hands-on courses provided a wide range of our staff with fundamental Tessitura knowledge that anyone using the database should have.”

The Houston Grand Opera (HGO) enriches its diverse community by creating, curating, exploring and producing outstanding opera experiences centered around the human voice. Internal teams collaborate with the help of Tessitura’s technology. But to work most efficiently, they need to be comfortable operating the database daily. Ariel Ehrman, HGO’s Business Intelligence Manager, recognized a need for more staff training on key Tessitura topics. She enrolled more than 43 HGO employees in Hands-on courses with the Tessitura Training Center. As a result, her team gained the foundational knowledge to streamline their day-to-day tasks in Tessitura and ideas for extending their use of the solution to better achieve their mission.

1. What is your role at HGO?

My role is to support HGO’s strategic priorities by collecting and analyzing key business data, as well as educating and encouraging best data hygiene practices for any team members who use Tessitura.

2. What are your long-term goals for the organization?

My long-term goals are to support our data-driven efforts by improving our data governance and increasing Tessitura knowledge and familiarity across the organization.

3. What is the benefit of enrolling multiple staff members in Hands-on courses?

The Hands-on courses provided a wide range of our staff with fundamental Tessitura knowledge that anyone using the database should have. Having the opportunity to complete practice exercises is helpful in improving Tessitura knowledge and identifying what subjects we may need additional training in.

"While the courses are a significant time commitment, they are certainly worth the effort, both for those new to Tessitura and as a refresher for those who are longtime Tessitura users."

4. How do Tessitura’s Hands-on courses move you closer to your goals?

These courses further our goals by ensuring consistent and specific training so we are all getting the most out of our database.

5. What would you say to community members considering a Hands-on course?

While the courses are a significant time commitment, they are certainly worth the effort, both for those new to Tessitura and as a refresher for those who are longtime Tessitura users.
